Bonnyville home lost to early morning blaze

Fire crews from Station 5 Bonnyville responded to a structure fire at 2:55 a.m. in the area 47 Avenue and 38A Street in Bonnyville. The fire is not being considered suspicious at this time.
A preliminary investigation has pinpointed the origin of the fire to the deck area of the home, but the cause remains undetermined, according to the Fire Chief Dan Heney, with the Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority. 

BONNYVILLE – Early Wednesday morning, Station 5 Bonnyville was dispatched to a fire engulfing a home on the east end of town. 

Fire crews responded to the structure fire at 2:55 a.m.  

“The home will be a complete loss, other than the attached garage,” said Regional Fire Chief Dan Heney, with the Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority (BRFA). 

Several nearby homes also suffered extensive external damage due to the radiant heat from the blaze.

The structure fire that occurred in the area 47 Avenue and 38A Street is not being considered suspicious at this time, noted Heney. 

Crews dispatched to second fire 

Later in the day, Station 5 Bonnyville also responded to a structure fire at the Bonnyville Native Rehab Centre at 11:45 a.m.  

“A small fire was discovered in an operations area of the building and was quickly brought under control by facility staff prior to the arrival of BRFA crews,” stated Heney. 

No further comments were provided in relation to the cause of the fire.
