Stoney Nakoda woman charged in September homicide

A 48-year-old woman is facing second degree murder charges in relation to the death of a 55-year-old Îyârhe Nakoda First Nation man.

After an extensive months-long investigation, RCMP arrested and charged Cynthia Dixon in the death of Donald Nepoose.

Dixon, 48, a resident of Îyârhe Nakoda First Nation, was arrested and charged March 1 with second degree murder in the death of 55-year-old Îyârhe Nakoda man Donald Nepoose, according to an RCMP media release.

Stoney Nakoda RCMP were called to a residence on the Nation Sept. 8, 2023, in response to to a disturbance, where they found Nepoose deceased. An autopsy completed by the Chief Medical Examiner in Calgary determined the manner of death to be homicide.

Dixon was detained into custody following a judicial interim release hearing and is appearing in front of the Alberta Court of Justice in Cochrane today (March 5).
