Town & Country This Week
Location: Athabasca and Westlock, Alberta
Description
Town & Country This Week, which covers the regions previously served by the Westlock News, Barrhead Leader and Athabasca Advocate, is looking for reporters for the Athabasca and Westlock offices to round out the newsrooms.
Great staff are rewarded and coveted, so if you excel, advancement within the chain is possible. Most of the reporters who have passed through the local offices over the last two decades have gone on to daily newspapers, magazines, communications position within government, or have advanced within the chain.
The Westlock area has a total population of roughly 12,000 (5,000 in town, and 7,000 in the county) and is ideally located just 45 minutes north of Edmonton, while the Town of Athabasca is 150 kilometres north of Edmonton. Town & Country This Week is part of the Great West Media chain; a group that includes newspapers such as the St. Albert Gazette, Rocky Mountain Outlook and Okotoks Western Wheel.
Qualifications
You’ll need to have a journalism degree, or diploma, a vehicle and a lot of energy. Previous experience, especially if applying for the editor role, is welcomed, although new grads are welcomed. We will require the successful applicants to move to the communities.
Salary will be based initially on experience and, quite frankly, how good one’s work is throughout the three-month probation period. That said, we are more than competitive salary-wise versus other weekly newspaper chains throughout Alberta and offer a good medical and benefits package.
Please no out-of-country applicants.
Interested candidates should send resume and cover letter, stating you found this job on Town & Country Today, to: [email protected] or [email protected]
