ATHABASCA — An Athabasca-area bus driver known for going “above and beyond” for her charges was recently presented with the 2022-2023 Bus Driver of the Year award from Aspen View Public Schools.

Sadie Lowe received the award during the division’s annual staff awards and recognition night hosted at the Boyle Community Centre May 5.

As noted in a release, the division established the Bus Driver of the Year award in 2018 to celebrate exemplary service and dedication demonstrated by school bus drivers as they carry out the important task of transporting students to and from school.

Lowe was nominated by two families on her Athabasca-area route.

“I nominate Sadie because she always goes above and beyond for all the students on her bus,” one nomination stated.

“My children have such a great bond with Sadie. It makes me as a parent feel at peace knowing my children are in the care of such a great driver.”

Another parent noted their children had been a little hesitant about taking the bus, but they love riding it now thanks to Lowe.

“My kids feel safe, they trust her and they never worry about anything. I and my kids look forward to seeing her each and every school day. She goes the extra mile and treats my kids like her own.”
