Boyle RCMP seized what they say is a “significant” amount of drugs April 1. Included is roughly two pounds of meth, as well as smaller amounts of cocaine, heroin, marijuana, and GHB.

ATHABASCA – An Alberta Beach resident faces multiple drug trafficking charges after RCMP say they found him in possession of what they believe to be four different illegal drugs and a considerable amount of cash.

According to an April 11 press release from Boyle RCMP Const. Andy Smith, officers saw a vehicle leaving a residence in the County of Athabasca, around 9:30 p.m. April 1. The licence plate attached to the vehicle was stolen, and the driver was found to have multiple outstanding warrants.

Following the stop, police say they seized what they suspect is 929 grams of methamphetamine, 55 grams of cocaine, 13 grams of heroin, 15 grams of cannabis, 3.30 ounces of gamma hydroxybutyrate (GHB), as well as a digital scale, plastic “dime bags”, various drug paraphernalia, and roughly $5,000 in cash.

“Boyle RCMP are committed to removing illegal drugs from our communities,” said Boyle RCMP commander Sgt. Dennis Properzi in the same April 11 press release. “This represents a significant seizure of drugs and the Boyle RCMP will continue efforts at crime reduction and in disrupting drug trafficking in our detachment area.”

Allan James Steidel, 41, faces multiple charges, including possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, failure to comply with a release order, possession of the proceeds of crime over $5,000, and three charges possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Steidel remains in custody with his first appearance in Athabasca Provincial Court slated for April 24.
