When Shane Czwil was diagnosed with Meningitis of the cerebral area almost three years ago, he lost the ability to speak, walk, and function independently.

But after one treatment of stem cell rehabilitation, he has learned to talk again.

“He was in rehab for eight months, then once he hit the full potential of rehab that the Howard Johnson Centre could provide he had to look further for treatment,” fundraiser Chad Johnson said.

“After the one (stem cell) treatment his ability to walk and talk was fine tuned just that little bit more. And he feels that it has helped greatly, so he's going for another round,” he said

The treatment is not supported in Canada or the United States, so Johnston needs to raise enough money once again to send Czwil to Mexico.

A three-kilometre walk will take place on July 14.

“We’ve sent him for one session of stem cell rehabilitation and it cost $23,000,” Johnston said. “He got the treatment and the results are good, but they like to do one or more treatments.”

Johnston explained that this time it is half the cost, and he is trying to raise the $14,000 with this fundraiser.

“Czwil is not to the full potential that he figures he should be, and I think he can go further too,” Johnston said. “Come on out and support an A-Town friend and an A-Town bro,” Johnston said.
