Man receives 19 days in jail after being caught with knives

Arnold Houle pleads guilty to violating conditions of his release order
Boyle Provincial Court ext winter

BOYLE – Violating conditions of his release order in the fall of 2022 has earned a nearly three-week jail sentence for an area man.

In Boyle Provincial Court March 28, Arnold Houle pleaded guilty to failing to comply with a release order condition, while Judge Jeffrey Champion accepted a joint-sentence submission from Crown prosecutor Ashlee Kirby and duty counsel Chris Chelala on a 19-day jail sentence — additional counts of failing to attend court and failing to appear for fingerprinting were withdrawn by Kirby. Houle, appearing by CCTV, has served currently six days of the sentence, leaving 13.

“When you get released with condition, you got to comply with them. You weren’t supposed to have knives, and it’s going to cost you 19 days. When you get out, you’ve got to play by the rules,” said Judge Champion.

Kirby told court that on Oct. 13, 2022, Fort Saskatchewan RCMP were investigating a theft and located Houle in the area and arrested him. During the search police found two knives were found on him and at the time, he was under release conditions not to have weapons, or objects with sharp edges.
