A mobile mammography service for women aged 50–69 will be set up at Athabasca Community Health Services (3401-48th Avenue) until next Tuesday (Feb. 25).
The mobile mammography trailer arrived in town today. Residents can book appointments by calling 1-800-667-0604.
The trailer will be open 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. tomorrow, Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, it will be open 8–11 a.m. The mobile service will be closed on Sunday and will reopen Monday from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Tuesday 8 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.
According to an Alberta Health Services (AHS) release, a mammogram (an X-ray of the breast) is the most effective way to detect breast cancer, and the earlier cancer is detected, the more treatment options are available and the better the chance of one’s survival.
Women 50–69 are being targeted with AHS’s screen test program because they are the group most at risk of developing breast cancer.
