The new Boyle village council took the oath of office last Wednesday evening with Don Radmanovich taking the reigns as mayor and Mike Antal nominated as his deputy.

Village of Boyle CEO Ken Gwozdz presided over the swearing in ceremony at the village office as Radmanovich and Antal were joined by fellow councillors Sam Assaf, Roger Hall and David Bencharsky.

“I will try to do the best I can and the whole council will be working together for the good of the town,” said Radmanovich.

The new mayor said he is keen to keep Boyle and its economy moving forward, but said increasing the population is a key issue, with Boyle being just 82 people short of the 1,000 it needs to gain town status, according to the last census.

“In order to get business you have to have the people, and in order to get people you have to have the business, so we’re kind of in a Catch-22 right now,” said Radmanovich.

New deputy Antal said his role is similar to a vice-president as he only takes over mayoral duties if Radmanovich is away.

“I’m just there to be a fill-in,” said Antal.

The first post-election council meeting saw the formation of new committees, with Assaf and Antal serving on the Health Services board, and the same two also appointed to both the Boyle and Joint Municipal Planning Commissions.

Mayor Radmanovich is on the Alberta Energy Corridor and the Water Commission alongside Antal and Hall.

Hall and Antal are also on the gas commission.
