River Rats looking for new blood

The Magnificent River Rats Festival is a staple of summer in Athabasca, but without an organizing crew, there would be no festival.

“Pretty much the entire executive has retired,” Robin Dosenberg said. “They put in quite a number of years and as a team they burnt out at the same time.”

Dosenberg has taken on the role of president, and is looking for a team to assist him in planning 2012’s Magnificent River Rats Festival.

“I could see that they were burnt out and looking for some new blood,” he said. “I am looking for vice president, treasurer, secretary, festival director, and a bunch of auxiliary stuff that we need to do.”

Dosenberg started out as a sponsor of the festival, and then from there he realized they needed a lot more help.

After living in Athabasca for 10 years, and attending approximately four festivals, Dosenberg has some ideas of what he would like to see at next year’s event.

“My intention is to create some discussion and figure out what the new group wants to do,” he said. “It’s one of those things that you have to keep on every week. Otherwise you’re going to be doing a lot of work at the end.”

Dosenberg is calling for all those interested in the festival to be at the Multiplex August 15 at 7:30 p.m. for a meeting.
