Semi rollover on Highway 2 near Smith

Road cleared and reopened as of 3 p.m.

SMITH — A rolled over semi-truck on highway 2 near the hamlet of Smith caused major delays for travellers in the early afternoon of June 19.

According to tweets from 511 Alberta, a semi jack-knifed across Hwy 2 west of the Athabasca River Bridge close to 1 p.m. this afternoon. At approximately 3 p.m., the road was declared clear and reopened for traffic both ways.

Initial reports by 511 indicate the truck was carrying bundles of wire when it jack-knifed. No additional information on number of vehicles involved nor condition of the truck driver are available at this time.
