A special council meeting to address the issue of replacing the Town of Athabasca’s outgoing chief administrative officer, Doug Topinka, concluded that the current CAO would be hired in the interim to fill said position.
Doug Topinka has been hired on as town CAO following his retirement, which will give the Town of Athabasca a chance to hire a new acting CAO.
“As far as steps to replace Doug, we (had) a meeting (last) Friday with our administration committee to go ahead and make sure we have that firmed up so Doug will be working with us weekly,” Mayor Roger Morrill stated. “We’ll decide how we are going to advertise for the position.”
The meeting with the administration committee was to formalize the motion made by council at the special meeting on Wednesday. Morrill stated the town was thinking of hiring a professional firm to assist in the hiring on a new CAO.
“I think that will be proceeding very quickly. I expect next week that will be handled.”
