The Town of Athabasca has enacted a fire ban as of 2 p.m. July 25.

The Town of Athabasca is enacting a fire ban as of 2 p.m. July 25 as the warm weather and lack of rain continues to pose an issue for fire safety.

Under the ban, existing fire permits are suspended, campfires on public or private lands and backyard fire pits are not allowed.

Fireworks, exploding targets, and charcoal briquette barbeques are all prohibited as well.

Indoor wood fires, as well as open flame oil devices and propane/natural gas-powered appliances, are allowed under the ban.

Athabasca County continues to have a fire restriction in place for lands outside the Forest Protection Area, as does the Village of Boyle and the Summer Villages of Mewatha Beach and Bondiss. The Forest Protection Area is also in a fire restriction.
