BOYLE — Firefighters and first responders in Boyle continue to make "excellent progress" on containing and extinguishing the fire along Highway 831 south of the village that ignited on Tuesday afternoon.

Updates from both Athabasca County and the Village of Boyle note the fire did not grow overnight for the second night in a row, and crews continue to focus on managing hotspots, working on mop up activities, and patrolling the fire perimeter and the surrounding rural land still on evacuation notice.

"Excellent work from ground crews during the day and overnight, as well as low overnight temperatures and less wind continued to see excellent progress on fighting the Highway 831 fire/ The fire guard was completed on Thursday and is 100 per cent secured."

As crews continue respond efforts, the highway south of the village remains closed to allow them ample space and safety. While the evacuation order for the village itself was lifted at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, 16 rural residences remain under evacuation order.

Both municipalities remind residents that although the blaze is held at this time, wildfire conditions are still classified as extreme in the area, and both fire and OHV bans remain in place.
