Athabasca County says a wildfire burning just south of the Village of Boyle is not expected to grow further overnight.

Athabasca County says the Highway 831 wildfire, burning just south of the Village of Boyle, is not expected to grow any more over night.

In a 6:50 p.m. update on the Voyent app, Athabasca County said the fire was now contained on all sides. Crews are gearing up to continue the fight over night and will re-assess the fire in the morning.

An investigation of the burnt areas determined no homes were impacted by the fire, although some outbuildings have been damaged or destroyed. There is not believed to have been any livestock damage as a result of the fire at this time.

At this time, it is still not safe for residents to return and the evacuation order remains in effect. Emergency Social Services staff will remain on sight at the reception centre in Lac La Biche until 7:30 p.m. tonight, and will return tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m.
