Athabasca County and the Village of Boyle are re-opening truck fill stations, the spray park, and other water-related amenities following a three-day closure.
Thanks to repair efforts from the Aspen Regional Water Services Commission, the regional water line is back in operation after a July 26 break left the county's eastern communities — and the hamlet of Colinton — without fresh water access. Instead, the hamlets relied on water reservoirs while truck fill users were directed to Athabasca or the hamlet of Plamondon.
Boyle Mayor Colin Derko said there was a low risk of running out of water, but given the current fire conditions the conservation order was required to make sure the municipalities could respond to the worst-case scenario if needed.
"By cutting things down and doing it quickly, we were able to make sure (enough water). Our biggest concern is always people, but fire protection as well," Derko said.
"We were never at risk and that was because of the quick reaction of the team over at the water commission."
