Athabasca County and the Village of Boyle are continuing to work on together on a wildfire burning just south of the village.
Fire crews from Athabasca County and surrounding areas worked through the night to keep the fire at bay as winds from the south continue to push it closer to Boyle.
An evacuation of the village, as well as county residents who weren't evacuated earlier, began at 10:49 p.m. Tuesday night. While the fire is continuing to move north, it is still in Athabasca County and has not reached the village.
A state of local emergency remains in effect for both municipalities in order to allow for evacuation orders, as well as other extreme measures.
Athabasaca County Reeve Tracy Holland said the council wanted to make sure it was prioritizing everyone's safety when it declared the emergency.
"With safety being of the utmost importance and because a state of local emergency empowers municipalities to take extraordinary actions to address the immediate threat, it was imperative we act quickly," she said.
Both the county and village thanked their partners for their work during the emergency response.
Residents are asked to stay away from impacted areas, and to avoid flying drones or any other aerial devices as crews continue their firefighting efforts as it can hinder the ability of water bombers and other aircraft to operate.
