Wabasca woman struck and killed by pick-up truck

WABASCA – A 21-year-old Wabasca woman is dead after being struck by a pick-up truck while walking in the hamlet earlier in April.

According to an April 26 RCMP press release, Desmarais RCMP received a call to assist EMS after a pick-up truck stuck a pedestrian on Yellowhead Road in the Hamlet of Wabasca at roughly 10:22 p.m., April 14.

According to investigators, the woman, who was a resident of the community, was walking on the roadway when she was hit — EMS and RCMP provided first aid, but she succumbed to her injuries.

An RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the scene and police, along with noting “thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of the deceased”, will not be releasing any further information on the crash.

The Hamlet of Wabasca is roughly 176 kilometres north of the Town of Athabasca.
