The Town of Barrhead is once again planning a fireworks display to occur at the Barrhead Sports Grounds around 9 p.m. on New Year's Eve.

BARRHEAD – The Town of Barrhead recreation department will be transforming the Barrhead Agrena into a “Winter Wonderland” in the days leading up to a “Family First Night” celebration on Saturday, Dec. 31.

Lina Prokott, recreation coordinator for the Town of Barrhead, said they will be setting up trees, snow piles and Christmas lights on the ice inside the Agrena on the morning of Tuesday, Dec. 27.

From about 2 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. that day and from noon to 8:30 p.m. on each following day until New Year’s Eve, the Agrena will be open to families to come down on skate on the ice or play in the snow piles, making snowmen and snow castles.

Prokott said this is the first time the town is setting up this indoor Winter Wonderland. “That is a new thing we are trying,” she added.

On Dec. 31, the Agrena will be the host site for the “Family First Night” event from 6-9 p.m. Inside the lobby will be crafts and games for kids, along with a photo booth and a table where people can write down their New Year’s wishes.

In the Charles Godberson Rotary Room, Barrhead Regional Fire Services will be serving free hot dogs donated by Freson Bros.

The event will be capped off with a fireworks display on the Sports Grounds at around 9 p.m.

Prokott noted the “Wibit” floating obstacle course will also be set up at the Barrhead Aquatics Centre from noon to 6 p.m. that day, and there will be a special Toonie Swim from 4-6 p.m.
