Barrhead Orioles get big home win over Edmonton

Barrhead break .500 for the first time this season

BARRHEAD - The Barrhead Orioles evened their record at four wins and four losses with a 12- 4 home win over the Edmonton Reds on June 12 in a five-inning game that was called early due to time.

Barrhead got off to a quick start, scoring runs in their half of the first inning. The Orioles would add to their lead by scoring one run in the second before Edmonton scored four runs in the top of the third inning when Barrhead starting pitcher Jamie Visser got into some trouble walking multiple batters.

However, the Orioles batters then went to work, scoring one run in their half of the third and adding two more in the fourth and fifth, respectively.

Visser pitched three innings, giving up four runs, two of them earned runs, on four hits, striking out six batters for the win. Lee Worbec would pitch two scoreless innings in relief.

Barrhead's next game is against the St. Albert Cardinals at home June. 18. The Cardinals sit second in the North Central Alberta Baseball League standings, one win ahead of the Orioles. However, St. Albert has one game in hand.
