Fourteen people braved the overcast and drizzling weather on the morning of Oct. 4 to participate in the CIBC Run for the Cure 5KM Run/Walk as part of the Breast of Friends running team.
Normally the team, which has been in place in some form, for several years would have made the trek to Edmonton to participate in the annual fundraiser Canadian Cancer Society to aid in breast cancer research.
However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the event was switched to a virtual event in which participants could take part in their own communities.
As of the morning of the event, the team had raised just over $1,000. It should be noted that although the event might be over, the Canadian Cancer Society will be taking online donations for the Run for the Cure until Dec. 31.
