BARRHEAD — The 2022-2023 season of the Barrhead Arts Council’s concert series will kick off this Thursday, Nov. 17, with an Edmonton-based Celtic rock group.

The Derina Harvey Band will perform at the Barrhead Composite High School (BCHS) theatre at 8 p.m.

“This act will definitely warm up a cold winter evening and we are so pleased to have this great band to start our season,” said Jennifer Lechelt, president of the Barrhead Arts Council.

With the band’s namesake serving as their lead singer, the Derina Harvey Band has covered “a fair amount of Canada” via the performing arts and festival circuits and have started venturing into the U.S., according to their website.

"Derina Harvey Band concerts can be adapted to suit any venue, whether it’s a captivating night of telling stories through song for an audience in a Performing Arts Centre, or a dinner and dance in a community hall,” their website states, adding that the band has been likened to a rockier version of Great Big Sea.

The band’s musical line-up includes some original songs such as “Rove and Go” and a few covers of songs such as “The Mary Ellen Carter,” which was first recorded by Stan Rogers in 1979.

Further information on the band and their music can be found at its website, https://www.derinaharvey.com/

The next performer in the 2022-2023 line-up is Martin Kerr, a singer-songwriter best known for his single “You’re Amazing.” Kerr will perform in Barrhead on Jan. 12, 2023.

Over The Moon, who was nominated for Best Roots/Traditional Album of the Year at the 2022 Juno Awards, will then take the stage on March 16.

Finally, Calgary musician Steve Pineo will bring “The Elvis Show” to Barrhead on April 20, 2023.

Tickets can be purchased at Comfort Corner in Barrhead at a cost of $100 for the entire season or $30 for individual concerts. School-aged children cost $10.
