BARRHEAD-On Monday, Oct. 26, the Barrhead and District Social Housing Association (BHSDA) announced that a resident in its Hillcrest Lodge senior’s facility had tested positive for the coronavirus.

The resident is now in isolation for 14-days. At the time the resident was tested they displayed no symptoms.

The resident, along with all the other residents, and staff of the facility were tested on Oct. 23 after an employee COVID-19 test results came back positive two days prior. All other residents, tenants and staff tests came back negative. The employee has not worked a shift since Oct. 16 and was not displaying symptoms.

In a media release, the BDSHA stated that due to the positive result Hillcrest Lodge, as well as Golden Crest and Klondike Place and Jubilee Manor are considered to be in "outbreak for 28 days", starting from Oct. 26.

For the first 14-days, the number of visitors to the facilities will be limited to one essential visitor only. All visits must be scheduled in advance. The release also states that no scheduled outdoor visits will be allowed.

"This will be readdressed at the time and will be adjusted based on the number of local active COVID cases," the release said. "If there are additional confirmed cases in any of the buildings, or other situations that may limit the ability to safely have more people on site."

The release also reiterates that residents and clients who are symptomatic must isolate and screening will be conducted daily for the duration of the outbreak.

The BDSHA also recommends that residents and tenants should limit their movement between facilities. Any movement between buildings should be done by the most direct route and masks need to be worn.

It is also recommended that any trip outside any of the BDSHA facilities be limited to essential travel only. When returning from trips outside the facility residents are asked to check-in at the screening station at Hillcrest Lodge.

For visits away from any of the facilities longer than 24 hours, residents will be screened to determine their risk level.

For those determined to be at a low risk, they must complete twice daily symptom self-checks. Those identified at a medium risk must wear a mask in all common areas for a minimum of 14 days. Residents deemed at a high risk must isolate in their rooms for 14 days.

"We are committed to doing everything in our power to protect our residents, tenants and staff. More information will be posted as it becomes available," the release said.
