Fire destroys Campsie Cove home

Busy weekend for Barrhead firefighters responding to two wildland fires and a house fire

BARRHEAD - A Campsie Cove home and outbuilding were devastated by an April 16 fire.

Barrhead Regional Fire Services (BRFS) responded to a report of the structure fire at about 2:30 p.m., Sunday, and found a two-story home fully engulfed in flames.

Chief Gary Hove said the homeowner reported seeing smoke from the gutters on the west side of the home.

"He then cut power to the building, got everyone out and called 911," he said.

Crews responded with Fire Engine 37, Tenders 5 and 34, and the two command vehicles. The Fort Assiniboine Fire Department pitched in with a water tender and additional firefighters, while the RCMP and EMS also provided assistance.

Hove noted it had been a busy weekend as a day earlier, at about 1 p.m., they were called to a large wildfire near Sion. He noted that firefighters were on the scene until about midnight, adding they returned the following day to "mop up" when they received the Campsie Cove call. Following the Campsie Cove call, at about 5 p.m., they responded to another report of a wildland fire near Campsie on Highway 764.
