It could have been much worse.
That is how Barrhead Regional Fire Services chief Gary Hove characterized a fire on Main Street.
At about 5:18 p.m. fire crews on Oct. 4 fire crews were called out to a structure fire at Ace Hardware.
Thanks to the efforts of his firefighters, he said they were able to contain the fire and extinguish the fire quickly and contain the damage mostly to the exterior of the building.
"The fire started in this corner near the bottom of [front highway side of Main Street] inside this fascia tube and went up from there," he said. "We sent in the crews right away, checked the attic, there was smoke but no fire."
Hove added after the fire crews vented the building and cleaned up some of the water inside the building, the business should be able to open as normal in short order.
He also pointed out that their job was made easier because of Tower 6.
Tower 6, is the department's aerial truck that it purchased in 2016, to replace its previous version which was retired after 37 years of service. At the time there were councillors on both the Town of Barrhead and County of Barrhead that were hesitant to purchase due to large price tag of about $700,000 which was shared equally between the municipalities.
"It gave us access to parts of the building that are not easily available," he said.
