BARRHEAD — One of the biggest attractions at the Blue Heron Fair Days this Aug. 13-14 will be the Global FMX Motocross Show, which will be performing just prior to the rodeo at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday and 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Kris Garwasiuk, who is involved in the production, said they’ve been doing show all over the world for 20 years now, performing at venues like the Calgary Stampede, the X-Games and the World Expo in Shanghai, China.

The show features several former X-Games athletes and professional riders jumping custom-built ramps, which they will roll into the show arena and move out prior to the rodeo.

It’s not quite the old Evel Knievel style of show where they set up an obstacle and jump over it while hoping for the best; Garwasiuk said it’s more like a BMX show, with the performers pulling off a variety of flips and mid-air handstands, including an incredibly difficult backflip performed by a member of their crew who is a two-time Canadian national motocross champion.

“It’s the tricks that really blow people away,” Garwasiuk added.

He noted as well that they have an eight-year-old performer – his son, in fact – doing some tricks off of a small jump to help demonstrate riding techniques for the kids who might be interested in getting involved in motocross.

Admission to Blue Heron Fair Days is $15 per day for adults or $10 a day for youth ages six to 17. Children five and under get in free.

Visitors to the fair can also purchase a two-day pass for $25 each or a two-day youth pass for $15.
