After being cancelled in 2020 and restricted to a drive-through event in 2021, the Barrhead Community Pumpkin Walk made a triumphant return on Oct. 28, drawing hundreds of trick-or-treaters and their parents/guardians to the Barrhead Sports Grounds.
As part of the event, families followed a winding path through the sports grounds near the Barrhead Agrena stopping at booths to pick up candy and other treats. Booths were set up by the Town and County of Barrhead, as well as local businesses and organizations like Barrhead Family and Community Support Services.
The path was lined by jack o'lanterns carved on Oct. 27-28 by students from Barrhead Elementary School using pumpkins donated by the Pembina West Co-op.
Trick-or-treaters also lined up to visit a Stranger Things-themed haunted house put on by the town's recreation department in the Charles Godberson Rotary Room.
Pembina West Co-op general manager Allan Cote started the event about 15 years ago when he noticed Barrhead did not have any family-friendly, safe alternatives to trick-or-treating.
The popular event moved to the sports grounds five years ago after the number of partiicipants grew too large for its old location at the Paddle River Golf Course.
