Easter is about more than just chocolate-covered eggs and a man-sized rabbit that walks on two legs, and that was the message being delivered during Bethel Pentecostal Church’s Walk With Jesus.

For the 65 parishioners who participated in the event in Barrhead on Saturday, March 26, it was all about the last days of Jesus in the form of an interactive walkthrough.

Family ministries coordinator Teresa Kristel said the idea was to do something more than just holding another Easter egg hunt, adding there were six stations that had been set up throughout the church, with all of the characters portrayed by members of the congregation.

“All of the children who participated were given little gift baskets that we put candies, activity books and some crafts in,” Kristel said, adding the church event was open to everyone.

“We had the gym available for the children to play in while they waited for their tour to start, and there was coffee. It was just the perfect opportunity to visit with people and make some new friends.”

Some of the activities of the interactive portion of the tour included writing prayer requests for when Jesus came through Jerusalem, a foot-washing station, samples of lemon water which Jesus was offered after his crucifixion, and sweet water that symbolized the miracle of his resurrection.

At the resurrection station as well, Mary, portrayed by Tabitha Raju, encouraged children to draw pictures on white felt so that water could be poured over them.

“This was to show the children what happened when Jesus was resurrected,” Raju said, adding that by accepting Jesus’ forgiveness, past sins were washed away.

“Just like the felt that you drew pictures on that became clean when we poured water over it, you too are wiped clean and renewed when you accept Jesus’ forgiveness.”
