Learning about agriculture

County of Barrhead's City Slickers program resumes after two-year hiatus

There is more to agriculture than just farming. That is the message Barrhead County wants to impart to school children through its City Slicker Program.

On Sept. 28, with the help of Barrhead Elementary School (BES), two school bus loads of Grade 4 students visited Schmidt Livestock, a feed and cattle producer, Baas Dairy, KNM Sales and Service, an agricultural machinery business and Barr-North Veterinary Services to learn about what they do and the importance they have in both the agricultural industry and the larger community in food production.

County of Barrhead agricultural fieldman Kyle Meunier noted the program is patterned after a similar program in Stony Plain and has run since 2013, except for 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic.
