Mayerthorpe RCMP seize about $90,000 of street drugs

Mayerthorpe RCMP seized a large quantity of what is suspected to be cocaine, an undisclosed amount of cash and drug sale paraphernalia during an April 4 traffic stop on Highway 43.

MAYERTHORPE - Mayerthorpe RCMP seized roughly $90,000 in street drugs following a traffic stop and subsequent arrest last week.

According to a police media release, on Thursday, April 4, Mayerthorpe RCMP responded to a driving complaint about a vehicle with substantial body damage driving at a high rate of speed on Highway 43.

“Mayerthorpe RCMP located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop with a lone male occupant. This road-side interaction quickly evolved into a drug investigation, where the occupant was arrested without incident,” the release stated.

A large amount of what is suspected to be cocaine (approximately 926.5 grams) was recovered, along with an undisclosed amount of cash and drug sale paraphernalia.

Jeffrey Stephan Arsenie, 41, from Sylvan Lake, was charged with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking along with several traffic offences. He was brought before a justice of the peace and released on conditions. He is scheduled to appear on May 9 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Mayerthorpe.
