MP looks back at the year that was

Dear constituents, as 2017 comes to a close, I am pleased to share an update on the past 12 months. For my family, the year began with the birth of our third child, Jillian.

Dear constituents, as 2017 comes to a close, I am pleased to share an update on the past 12 months. For my family, the year began with the birth of our third child, Jillian. Big sister Aliyah and big brother Seeley have enjoyed watching Jillian go from crawling to walking. I have also been blessed to have my family with me in Ottawa throughout the Parliamentary year and this helps mitigate the demands of my schedule.

As I have travelled throughout our riding visiting towns, meeting with folks, attending events, and logging over 15,000km, I continue to hear one clear message: Liberals need to stop attacking local businesses and family farms.

Halfway through his mandate, it’s clear Justin Trudeau’s policies are hurting the very people that he claims to want to help and Liberal tax hikes are making it increasingly difficult for Canadians to make ends meet. A recent Fraser Institute report found that 81 per cent of middle class families are paying more in taxes under the Liberals.

The good news is that Conservatives have demonstrated to Canadians that there is a real alternative to Justin Trudeau’s Liberals: a Conservative movement that recognizes how hard Canadians work, and how little they get in return from this government

Conservatives exposed the unethical behaviour of Justin Trudeau and Bill Morneau, who are now both under investigation - a first in Canadian history.

We have exposed Liberal schemes to raise taxes on health and dental benefits, diabetics, people living with autism, our men and women in uniform, and hardworking local businesses. As the voice of the taxpayer, Conservatives stopped Justin Trudeau every time.

We believe in keeping taxes low and we will continue to bring forward a positive Conservative vision for Canadians frustrated by Justin Trudeau.

As Conservatives, our priorities come from the hockey rinks, the legion halls, the grocery stores, and most importantly, the local businesses who create jobs and opportunities. This is who we are, and that’s who we’re fighting for.

But for now, this is the season to count our blessings. For Christians, the greatest of these is Christmas itself, the birth of Jesus Christ.

It’s a time for joyful reunions with family and friends. It’s also a time to remember and assist those in our midst who have less.

From Aliyah, Seeley, Jillian, Melissa and myself, Merry Christmas to all, and best wishes for a healthy and happy New Year.
