NEERLANDIA – Three students from the Neerlandia Public Christian School were awarded Citizenship Awards for their character and participation on June 11.

Those three students recognized are Donny Fleming, Jackson Taylor, and Emily Slomp.

“The school board is pleased to present Donny, Jackson, and Emily with the Citizenship Award in recognition of the positive contributions they make,” said Pembina Hills School Division in a media release.

Donny Fleming is a Grade 3 student who consistently demonstrates a strong sense of responsibility often going above and beyond to complete his work with care and attention, according to the School Division.

He takes initiative by checking in proactively and always strives to meet or exceed expectations.

His dedication and quiet determination make him a natural leader in the classroom.

Donny is also deeply committed to inclusion. He makes a conscious effort to ensure that everyone feels welcome by inviting classmates to join in and creating space where others feel comfortable participating.

His compassion shines through in thoughtful everyday moments. Fleming is quick to notice when a classmate seems upset or anxious and quietly offers support.

When someone needs space or understanding, he advocates for them with kindness and respect, always putting the well-being of others first.

Jackson Taylor brings a calming presence and a strong sense of responsibility to his Grade 3 classroom, according to the School Division.

His steady focus and respectful behaviour sets a quiet example for others.

He gently guides off task peers back on track with subtle reminders and consistently modeling attentive engagement.

Taylor follows classroom expectations with care, always raising his hand to contribute thoughtful and meaningful insights into discussions.

His quiet compassion and genuine desire to support others shines through in everything he does.

He is observant and often the first to notice when a classmate needs help.

Taylor responds with kindness and humility, never seeking recognition, simply doing what's right before returning to his own work.

His consistent thoughtfulness helps create a supportive an inclusive learning environment.

Jackson's everyday actions reflect his deep empathy and commitment to the well-being of those around him.

Emily Slomp is a responsible, compassionate, and actively engaged member of her school community, the School Division said.

She consistently leads with kindness and empathy, always ready to lend a helping hand and treat everyone she encounters with respect.

Emily takes initiative without being asked, often demonstrating a sincere sense of responsibility and care for her environment.

She leads by example and is often one of the first to step up and support others.

Her quiet leadership brings people together, promotes inclusivity, and helps cultivate a respectful welcoming atmosphere.

Emily is guided by strong integrity and a deep commitment to do what's right, even when no one is watching.

Her respectful and thoughtful nature makes her a valuable voice in group settings.

She encourages her peers to share their thoughts and creates a space where people feel heard and supported.

Her contributions, both in discussion and through action, help foster collaboration, kindness, and a strong sense of community within her school and her grade 9 classroom.

Donny and Jackson were nominated for their Citizenship Awards by their teacher, Cara Corcoran.

Emily was nominated for her Citizenship Award by her teacher, Lisa Wruk.
