One stop program shopping

It is a one evening, one place extravaganza for anyone wanting to enroll or find out more information about any of the many programs offered by the churches, clubs and organizations in the area.

It is a one evening, one place extravaganza for anyone wanting to enroll or find out more information about any of the many programs offered by the churches, clubs and organizations in the area.

The event is Make the Connection and it will take place at the Barrhead Curling Club on Thursday, Sept. 8.

Brandy Siegert, from Barrhead’s Recreation Department, said the event is aptly named.

“It does just that,” she said. “It gives people from all over the area a chance to see what services and programs Barrhead groups, clubs and other organizations provide and gives them an opportunity to make a connection, ask questions and if they are interested, register for them.”

Siegert said historically the event takes place on the first Thursday in September, but because of when Labour Day fell this year along and along with when students went back to school they felt it would be better if the town delayed the event until families had a chance to settle into their routines.

Over the years the event has proven to be very popular and about 40 groups and organizations attended the event last year and Siegert is hopeful there will be that many again.

Make the Connection Night runs from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

For those groups who haven’t registered for the event, Siegert said there is still time. So that staff has enough time to set up for the event, she asks that the bulk of the attendees will register by Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 7), but that staff generally set up a few extra tables for late comers.

“I encourage everyone to come out and take a look at all the wonderful programs our town has to offer,” she said. “And there is not a better event. It truly is a one stop shopping opportunity. A person can find out about a program, ask questions and sign up all in one swoop. What could be more convienient?”
