BARRHEAD – Desiree Cote recognized with Exemplary Support Services Award for outstanding commitment to students

Desiree Cote, an Early Learning Program Educational Assistant at École Barrhead Elementary School, has been awarded an Exemplary Support Services Award by the Pembina Hills School Division.

“Please join us in congratulating Desiree Cote on receiving an Exemplary Support Services Award,” the division announced on Facebook on May 7.

Known for creating a caring, compassionate and uplifting environment, Cote has become a valued presence in the classroom, offering students a welcoming space to learn and grow.

Her passion lies in providing individualized educational support, particularly for students with complex needs. She fosters a peaceful, confident learning environment through her creativity, dedication and day-to-day commitment to student success.

Cote’s flexible and engaging teaching approach is tailored daily to meet the diverse needs of her students, and she consistently seeks the best possible outcomes for them. Her work is rooted in the belief that what is best for the students should always come first.

A life-long learner, Cote demonstrates her openness to new techniques, technologies, and strategies, integrating division objectives with a calm, considered approach. Her colleagues describe her as kind, patient, and supportive—someone who is both dependable and inspirational.

“She is flexible, reliable and adaptable in her integrations of division objectives whether it’s new technology, strategies or techniques,” the division’s post reads. “Her openness to growth of her own skills and knowledge confirms her commitment of excellence in her work for the students and the school.”

Cote’s influence extends beyond the classroom. Her quiet reserve and calming presence inspire those around her, and her story times have become a highlight for many students, reflecting the strong connections she builds with them.

“For her exceptional commitment and profound impact, Desiree is truly deserving of the Exemplary Support Services Award,” the division said in a Facebook post.
