August 8 the Pembina West Co-op parking lot in Barrhead had a section of parking stalls blocked off for local young artists to show their creativity in chalk.
“We had 45 kids sign up this year. The first year (2022) was 20 kids and last year there were 30 registrations,” Ryan Roy, Barrhead Pembina West Co-op Store Manager shared.
“In the years before each kid got their own stall to decorate but this year we had to cut the stalls in half for the event with so many registrations.”
Children and youth of all ages gathered in the early evening sun to do their chalk decorating.
Several people were on hand to watch the creativity happening in each of the different parking stalls.
The older artists were situated close to the storefront, and the youngest chalk decorators were in the centre stalls close to the hosting area.
There were some very imaginative creations being worked on.
You could feel the positivity of the event in the air and the smiles on everyone’s faces confirmed their enjoyment of all that was happening.
The event was scheduled to be completed within an hour and many of the parking stalls were completed before the time limit ended.
The chalk decorating pieces are located on the south part of the parking lot for viewing.
