Provincial, federal resources listed for Barrhead businesses

Town, county, chamber and Community Futures partner to compile list
Covid-Resources (004)

BARRHEAD - The Town and County of Barrhead have partnered with Community Futures Yellowhead East (CFYE) and the Barrhead District Chamber of Commerce to compile a list of links to provincial and federal resources to support area businesses during the COVID-19 crisis.

In a release, the four municipalities and business associations acknowledge that residents, employees and businesses are facing major financial hardships in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It has never been more important to support our local businesses than it is now during this crisis. We need to focus on keeping our local businesses viable and our neighbours employed,” said County of Barrhead reeve Doug Drozd. “Working together as a community will help to mitigate the depth of the downturn and support a quicker recovery.”

Town of Barrhead mayor Dave McKenzie added, “We must respect guidelines set forth by the province and feds for social distancing and self-isolation, but it is equally vital to recognize what effects this crisis will have in the long term on Barrhead businesses.”

McKenzie added that centralizing accurate information in a single source will help the business community work through the challenges faced due to this pandemic.

The release notes that all four partners are actively watching the COVID-19 crisis and are following protocols laid out by Alberta’s health authorities.

While the offices and facilities of all four partners are closed to the public and all non-essential meetings have been cancelled, services to residents and businesses will continue to be provided with communications being available via phone, e-mail and, where possible, remote access meetings.

Barrhead and District Chamber of Commerce president Megan Perry said local businesses are working hard to comply with and promote social distancing.

“Please show your appreciation and support by keeping your business local,” Perry added.

“Our world is changing, and we are all learning to change along with it,” said CFYE board chair Carol Webster. “CFYE will be with local businesses each step of the way as we work to help our businesses, clients and businesses prepare for what is yet to come.”
