It was a night to celebrate. On Thursday, March 16, in front of a packed house at the United Church to see some of the best performers from the Barrhead Rotary Music Festival.

The concert featured 20 different performances, each chosen by one of the four adjudicators to showcase the best of the music festival.

Shawn Stephani, MC of the event and Rotary Music Festival board member, said over the course of the seven day event, which spanned two weeks, 281 entries performed in five different venues throughout Barrhead in categories such as spoken word, solo vocal and instrumental, among others.

Jennifer Thomas, Rotary Music Festival president, said while the performances at the concert were designed to showcase the best of the festival, every one of the participants was a winner.

Shelley Oswald, recreation director at Hillcrest Lodge, one of the many scholarship presenters, told the crowd the music festival is a good example of what people can achieve when a person sets their minds to something.

“I always tell my seniors that you’re never too old to set a goal or dream another dream and while most of the participants in the music festival are not seniors, they do show us what is possible when someone has a dream, talent and puts in the effort to achieve it,” she said.
