VICTORIA — An RCMP officer in Kelowna, B.C., is facing an assault charge stemming from an incident two years ago.
The BC Prosecution Service says the assault charge a constable has been approved and an information was sworn in provincial court.
The service says the charge was approved by an experienced Crown counsel not related to the accused.
It also says the charges were approved in accordance with the assessment guideline, which requires an evaluation of the evidence to determine if there's a substantial likelihood of conviction and if prosecution serves the public interest.
No other information on the case has been released.
The prosecution service says the officer is set for his first court appearance on Sept. 18.
