After last year’s inaugural Best of Town and Country Readers Choice Awards attracted more than 5,000 votes for dozens of local businesses, the contest is returning with 17 new categories for locals in Athabasca, Barrhead and Westlock to pick their favourite local businesses.
“We were thrilled with last year’s response, and we look forward to even more participation from readers and local businesses with the new categories,” said publisher Tim Shoults. “We have great locally-owned businesses in our communities, and this is a great way to support them.”
Among the new categories are:
• Best Auto Dealership
• Best Plumber/Heating/Cooling
• Best Electrician
• Best Chiropractor/Physiotherapist
• Best Realtor
• Best Dentist
• Best Pharmacy
• Best Greenhouse/Garden Centre
• Best Hair Salon/Barber
• Best Grocery Store
• Best Law Firm
• Best Gas Station/Convenience Store
• Best Auto Repair
• Best Tire Shop
• Best Local Event
• Best Customer Service
That’s in addition to the two dozen food and drink categories that were the mainstay of last year’s contest.
Winners will be given certificates to hang in their places of business and be listed in Town and Country This Week in August and on www.townandcountrytoday.com throughout the year.
“Last year Athabasca businesses dominated the winners,” Shoults noted. “We expect businesses from Barrhead and Westlock to take up the challenge this year!”
Voting starts Monday, June 30 and continues until Friday, Aug. 1. Go to www.townandcountrytoday.com and click on the “Best of Town and Country” link at the top of the page to vote for your favourite businesses. If you don’t see your local business in a category, you can also use the form on the page to nominate new businesses.
