From Sacred to Savory: How Boyle Pizza House Turned a Church into an Award-Winning Slice of Heaven

For more than 25 years, Darren and Charlotte have delighted locals and tourists with pizza that can only be described as “heavenly.”

That’s not just because Boyle Pizza House is a Town and Country Readers’ Choice gold winner. It’s not just because they operate out of a charming converted church. It’s because their time honoured recipes, daily freshly made dough and sauce, quality fresh ingredients, and love of what they do bring everything on the menu to life.

Boyle Pizza House opened in 1999.

"Darren's first job was seven years at a pizza restaurant in Whitecourt,” reminisces his mother and business partner, Charlotte. After a move to Boyle, they noticed the local restaurant was up for sale. As Charlotte describes, “It seemed like a good fit.”

It was. Under Darren and Charlotte’s leadership, the restaurant flourished.

The owners point to the house special and the meat lovers as the most popular menu items. Darren is a fan of the taco grande, BBQ chicken, and donair pizzas.

“They are all delicious!” he laughs.

By 2024, the business continued to grow, making the decision to buy the decommissioned church and convert it into a larger location an easy one. The move added more seating, an additional patio, more storage space, and an extra oven. The addition of large screens means sports fans can watch the hockey game as they enjoy a slice – or two.

With a focus on quality and customer service, and a reputation that brings tourists flocking to Boyle Pizza House, it shouldn’t have been a surprise to sweep up several Town and Country Readers’ Choice wins. After taking the gold for Best Pizza last year, voters doubled down for their favourite spot in 2025, earning Boly Pizza House several wins across many categories.

Charlotte says, “We were very excited to hear that we won gold in multiple categories. It's a good feeling to know that all the hard work we put into our new location, our food preparation, and our customer service have paid off.”

In addition to being Boyle and area’s go-to spot for delicious food and casual gatherings, Boyle Pizza House is active in the community.

“We sponsor many local events, clubs, organizations, and teams,” says Darren.

Boyle Pizza House is coming up on three decades of delighting locals and tourists with award-winning meals.

"We would like to thank our customers for their continued support,” Charlotte concludes. “We would also like to thank our hardworking staff, and our families for their dedication.”
