1 dead, 2 missing in boating incident near Canmore

A search for two people is underway following a tragic boating accident near Canmore on Sunday (July 10).

KANANASKIS, Alta – A search for two people is underway following a tragic boating accident near Canmore on Sunday (July 10).

According to Canmore RCMP, one person died in Kananaskis Country this afternoon after a boat capsized in the Spray Lakes campground area of Spray Valley Provincial Park.

At 2 p.m., the RCMP was alerted of the incident involving four people approximately 20 kilometres south of Canmore.

"One person was self rescued, one was confirmed deceased, and two remain unaccounted for," an RCMP statement said. "Kananaskis Emergency Services, Alberta Conservation Officers and RCMP are continuing search efforts."

Canmore RCMP is asking the public to avoid the area until further notice.
