The Alberta government is taking its 10-year strategy to end gender-based violence to the next level with a $720,000 investment into programs that help stop violence before it starts.
The nearly three-quarters of a million dollars will be available as one-time grants to three different community-led programs that help promote healthy relationships, emotional well-being and positive role modelling for men and boys.
“Men and boys are key partners in our work to end gender-based violence, and this funding strengthens programs that build safer communities for everyone," said Minister of Arts, Culture and Status of Women Tanya Fir in a news release on Thursday. "I am grateful to the front-line workers leading that change and helping to break the cycle of violence today.”
This investment is part of Priority 2 for the 10-year strategy, which includes preventing gender-based violence before it begins.
The strategy outlines more than 100 initiatives aimed at awareness, prevention, intervention and long-term support for survivors, which includes investments of more than $188 million in province-wide supports such as emergency shelters, safe transportation, legal assistance and other critical supports.
