Jack Puglas was thrilled to find out he had won $1 million on LOTTO MAX on the May 6 draw, and even more thrilled when he realized he and his fiancé could finally tie the knot.

The Airdrie local was brewing his morning coffee when he took a moment to scan his ticket with the Lotto Spot app and he had to do a double-take.

“I scanned it a few times before I went to wake my fiancé up,” Puglas laughed. “She scanned it on her phone too and then we went to the [Circle K] to see if it was real.”

Sure enough, Puglas’ LOTTO MAX ticket was the only MAXMILLIONS prize winner on the May 6 draw.

“[My fiancé and I] are so filled with emotions,” he said. “We purchased our first house just a month ago and now we can pay it off and start on renovating it.”

“We’ll also put some money away for our kids’ school,” he smiled. “I bought the ticket while I was picking up Slurpees for my kids while they were at soccer practice—so they’re part of this too. The kids are actually doing a better job of keeping the win quiet than we are."

Most of all, the pair is excited to celebrate their relationship and start their marriage.

“We’ve been engaged for 12 years, and now we can actually plan a wedding,” he said. “We can set a date!”

Puglas purchased his winning ticket from Circle K at 1-905 1 Avenue NW in Airdrie.

He won his MAXMILLIONS prize on the May 6 LOTTO MAX draw with the selection: 10, 16, 18, 24, 35, 36, and 41.
