BRAGG CREEK - With festivities ranging from live music, to entertainment for the whole family, and even a popular pie-eating contest, residents from Bragg Creek and the surrounding area are invited for a fun-filled day at Bragg Creek Days on July 22.
General manager for the Bragg Creek Community Association (BCCA), Kim Perraton, said festivities start bright and early that Saturday morning with a pancake breakfast to help support Redwood Meadows Emergency Services. The breakfasts are $7 each and all proceeds will support the local fire department.
At 10:30 a.m., the annual community parade will take place along Balsam Avenue, featuring floats from local businesses in Bragg Creek.
Post-parade, the Bragg Creek Community Centre will re-open its parking lot for a market, which will feature around 25 vendors and run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Also kicking off at 11 a.m., the beer garden, BBQ, and live entertainment will be taking place until 5 p.m., featuring special musical performances – including a well-known country star with a Cochrane connection.
“This year we are lucky to announce that we have George Fox attending our musical line-up and that is thanks to community member, Dick Koetsier,” Perraton said.
Starting at noon, family games for kids will be available until 4 p.m. In addition to those activities, the pie eating contest will take place at 12:30 p.m., right after George Fox’s first set.
Perraton said there’s a pie-eating contest for both kids and adults.
“And the pies are sponsored by Mabel and Marie’s here in Bragg Creek,” she said.
According to Perraton, participants looking to partake in the pastry-based, pie-eating contest can do so on event day by signing up on-site, prior to the competition.
“You just give us your name, we’ll call you up,” Perraton said. “It’s a very messy event, but very fun.”
Another Bragg Creek Days addition that Perraton is pleased to announce for this year is a petting zoo, made possible through the efforts of The Little Schoolhouse Kindergarten and Preschool.
“It’ll be Butterfield Acres and that is brought to us by The Little Schoolhouse, and they wanted to contribute to the event this year,” Perraton said. “So, we’re looking forward to that as well.”
Compared to last year, Perraton said the BCCA is anticipating a larger crowd in attendance this year. She said that speaks volumes about the yearly celebration itself and the continued support it receives from the hamlet community and its surrounding areas.
“Last year, we were thrilled to see that a lot of families had started coming out of their homes and attending the event,” Perraton said. “…it has a good reputation, surrounding communities such as Cochrane are hearing about it, so we’re looking forward to welcoming new visitors.”
