Beryl Musila was handed 25 years for first-degree murder in the death of St. Albert's Ron Worsfold.
Musila has been behind bars since the slaying in 2017 and will be given credit for the time served, leaving roughly 19 years left on the sentence. She pleaded guilty to the charge of indignity of human remains at the outset of the trial and on Thursday was handed a sentence of 2.5 years, less 30 days, which will be served concurrently with her remaining 19 years.
Worsfold, 75, was killed in July 2017 and his body was found days later in a Rubbermaid container on a rural property in Parkland county.
Musila, 34, who was self-represented, was on trial for nine weeks.
Throughout the trial, Crown prosecutors said Musila drugged Worsfold and then beat him to death in his home with a hammer
Throughout the trial, Musila claimed she was sleeping on the couch the night of Worsfold's murder when a strange person came into the home, killed Worsfold and framed her.
