Cadzow hospital without doc in ER again

Latest in recent disruptions at Lac La Biche hospital sees ER shutdowns from the afternoon to the following morning on several days.

LAC LA BICHE - The Emergency Department at Lac La Biche's W.J. Cadzow Hospital will be without an on-site physician from Saturday afternoon to Sunday morning. The service disruption will continue next Tuesday morning until Wednesday morning.

Alberta Health Services says the latest changes are once again due to the inability to secure physician coverage in the community.

Dates of disruption:

August 5 at 2:00 p.m. – August 6 at 8:00 a.m.

August 8 at 8:00 a.m. – August 9 at 8:00 a.m.

Patients are asked to call 911 if they have a medical emergency. EMS will remain available to the community and will be re-routed to surrounding healthcare centres.

Nurses on shift

Nursing staff will remain on-site in the emergency department providing triage, assessments and referrals for patients to alternate emergency departments in surrounding communities, as needed.

If coverage is found, disruptions may be cancelled. AHS is reminding residents that the disruptions are temporary measures, and they are working to ensure local residents continue to have access to the care they need.

This is the sixth time in the last three months that the hospital's emergency department has been without on-site physician.
