Collision south of Turner Valley claims life of teen

STARS Air Ambulance lifts off from a scene in a 2022 file photo. The shock trauma rescue service was called to airlift one patient from a collision on Highway 22 south of Turner Valley on May 11 where another was declared deceased.

One person is dead and another was airlifted to hospital following a collision Thursday evening south of Turner Valley.

On May 11 at 7:45 p.m., the call came in of a multi-vehicle collision on 498 Avenue and Highway 541, stated a May 12 press release from RCMP.

It was determined on arrival that an SUV and passenger car had collided, with one rolling and a third vehicle, a pickup, being involved in a secondary collision.

One person was transported to a Calgary hospital by STARS Air Ambulance, while another, an 18-year-old male resident of Eden Valley First Nation and a passenger in the car, was declared deceased at the scene.

The section of Highway 22 was closed for some time as an RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the scene, but has since reopened.

The statement indicates the investigation is ongoing and no further information has been released at this time.
