Nearly 11,000 KIA vehicles are being recalled over concerns an electric oil pump could short circuit and spark a fire.

The recall, released this week by Transport Canada, applies to the 2023 KIA Soul, the 2023 Sportage and the 2023 and 2024 Seltos.

“A short circuit could create the risk of a fire,” warns Transport Canada.

As part of its corrective actions, Kia will notify owners by mail and tell them to take their vehicles to a dealership where the transmission electric oil pump assembly can be inspected, and replaced, if necessary.

Until then, the recall calls on owners of the three vehicle models to exercise caution when parking near other cars or buildings.

“Kia recommends parking your vehicle outside and away from other vehicles or buildings until the recall repairs are completed,” notes the federal transport agency.
