Golden retriever puppy stolen, Calgary Police investigating

Police are seeking multiple suspects after 17-week-old golden retriever puppy was taken from its owner at a northeast Calgary community centre earlier this week.

A golden retriever puppy was taken from its owner at a northeast Calgary community centre earlier this week.

The Calgary Police Service (CPS) issued a press release Wednesday afternoon of an investigation surrounding the theft of Waverly, a 17-week-old golden retriever, taken from its owner while attending training classes at the Thorncliff Greenview Community Association at 5600 Centre Street NE.

The owner and her dog entered the building when they were ambushed by a group of six people.

One of the suspects then took the dog and fled to the parking lot, entering a vehicle the press release described as a silver Honda CRV, while the remaining five suspects confined the victim and prevented her from following her dog.

When they let her go, the woman attempted to stop the vehicle by standing behind it, but one of the suspects pushed her out of the way and it left the scene with the dog inside.

The remaining suspects fled the parking lot in two unknown vehicles.

At least one of the suspects may be known to the victim, police believe, and the dog may be in possession of the identified suspect or may have been sold to someone unaware of the theft.

Charges have not yet been laid as police continue to try and locate the identified suspect, and authorities believe the theft to be the result of a dispute between the breeder and the victim.
