Northern Alberta man shot after confronting car-jacker

A victim was shot after confronting a person who was allegedly attempting to steal a vehicle in Northern Alberta. The victim was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

BONNYVILLE, ALBERTA – A 33-year-old man was shot in Bonnyville after confronting a person reportedly attempting to steal a vehicle in the early hours of April 17. 

On Sunday, the Bonnyville RCMP received a report at about 2:37 a.m. of the alleged vehicle theft attempt that had occurred in the area of 45 Ave. and 42 St.   

“The victim confronted a suspect and during the confrontation the victim was shot with a firearm,” stated RCMP in a media release.   

The 33-year-old victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries following the confrontation.   

The suspect fled the area in a separate vehicle, which is believed to be a hatchback car, according to police. 

RCMP believe three to four other suspects were involved in the incident. 

One of the suspects is described as having braided hair and is believed to be approximately 5ft 6in. 

No other details of the suspect vehicle or the other suspects believed to be involved in the incident were provided by RCMP. 

Bonnyville RCMP members continue to investigate the circumstances of Sunday morning’s shooting.  

More information may be released as the investigation progresses, states the media release.
